My Adventures with Kelsey #CoverReveal #HowILearnedToShineAgain #PreOrders

This weekend I had the fantabulous opportunity to visit with Kelsey (from K. Keeton Designs.) I’d entrusted her with the task of creating the book cover for How I Learned to Shine Again. This was a monumental task, because she had to turn me into a cover model. Seriously, that’s a MAJOR undertaking.

At first I felt a little insecure about being on the cover and considered other options, but I kept coming back to it. Inside the pages of the book is my heart and soul through my grief journey and truly there was no other choice. So, Kelsey had to take this girl and capture how I now feel on the inside being on the other side of grief. If you’ve ever seen Kelsey’s work (which if you haven’t go visit her page ASAP cause she rocks) it’s unique and breathtaking. She has this God given ability to take models and ordinary non-models like myself and pull the emotions happening inside our physical forms and capture them in the perfect shot.

I met Kelsey online before she started her amazing business. She’d taken one of my first author photos and edited it. Check out this gem circa 2011. ๐Ÿ˜‰

But the moment I personally felt her skills was when she did my head shots at Penned Con last year. She captured me and for a girl who once hated her picture–she showed me I could LOVE it. The person I felt like on the inside was captured on the outside.

There’s a special kind of magic that happens when she holds the camera. For me, she was the one person I could trust wholeheartedly with this cover and the magnitude of importance it carries for me. After traipsing through the woods dodging frogs in flip flops and a sundress, Kelsey took the perfect shot. It is the most accurate visual into my heart and the perfect cover for this book. I’m so grateful for her time, her talents, and her friendship. I could write a book about how amazing she is but since this is a blog post I’ll stop gushing and let you see her amazing work!
